elements of boat design
I recently downloaded the free pdf book, elements of yacht design, by norman l. skene, and provided by cornell university's library in downloadable pdf and ebook formats. i prefer the pdf format due to the fact that ocr technology still leaves much to be desired, and as a result, the pdf version is much clearer for me to read.. The elements of boat strength has all the formulas, tables, illustrations, and charts you need to judge how heavy each piece of your boat should be in order to last and be safe. with this book, an inexpensive scientific calculator, and a pad of paper, you'll be able to design and specify all the components necessary to build a sound, long. I am considering building a small strip plank boat as discussed briefly here i will likely use gerr's "elements of boat strength" to calculate the scantlings. the bulkheads will most likely be ply and as it is quite small, i was thinking of using the same for the ring frames - basically just a bulkhead with the middle cut out..
