What activity can i use to explore forces and motion during science week? use this activity to help key stage one children explore and investigate designing a boat as part of your british science week activities. making the boat is a great opportunity for children to work collaboratively. encourage them to think about why the boat moves and how they could make it go faster or further.. Speed boat is a design thinking activity to help frame the obstacles that are holding back the success of your project—and it can interject some life and fun into your process.. Explain to students that they will participate in a boat-building challenge. provide each with a copy of the boat design challenge printable and group them into teams of 3-4 for the challenge. distribute the boat design challenge kit to each group and allow enough time for them to brainstorm, design, build and test their models.. 
design a boat activity Objective: children will strengthen science, math, creative-thinking, and problem solving skills as they explore boat making. activity . engage children in a discussion about boats. encourage them to share what they know about boats. invite children to make their own boats to use for floating/sinking experiments. set out the boat-making materials.. Students conduct a simple experiment to see how the water level changes in a beaker when a lump of clay sinks in the water and when the same lump of clay is shaped into a bowl that floats in the water. they notice that the floating clay displaces more water than the sinking clay does, perhaps a surprising result. then they determine the mass of water that is displaced when the clay floats in.
