I'm considering the purchase of a center console boat that is a little bit long for my dock/boat slip / boat lift. the transom of this boat would end up being about 3.5 feet rear of the boat lift's rear cross-beam. the lift's bunks extend 1.5 feet rearward of the lift's rear cross-beam.. Measuring tape to measure exact length and width of lift bunks. be sure to allow carpet to fold over and cover the ends. marine carpet that is made for trailer and boat lift bunks with environmentally-specific qualities. heavy-duty, all-weather carpeting will protect your boat’s hull from scratches.. The bunks should be situated just inside those chines. i do have one question about what you are trying to do. i am not sure whether you will be using rough cut 2 by 8's, or lumberyard 2 by 8's, which the true dimensions are actually 1 1/2 by 7 1/2 inces..

While it wouldn't hurt, i think 4 bunks is overkill. lots of boats on our lake for a long time with a 2 bunk lift. remember the forces between the boat/bunks is nearly static on the lift. the forces on the boat when trailering are many times greater. you are right about the chines... this is two points of contact..
